Tutor at the 9th Grade Bridge Program
The Ninth Grade Bridge Program is always looking for students and community members to help underrepresented students achieve their full potential in mathematics, engineering, and science. While math skills are important, your ability to connect with our students, be a role model/mentor, and provide positive encouragement is just as important.
Desired Skills:
- Basic knowledge of alegebra
- Commitment to diversity in higher education
- Comfortable working with a racially diverse group of young people
- Supportive and encouraging attitude
- Ability to motivate others
- Available during the after-school hours of 2:30pm-4:30pm

Help a junior or senior explore their career of interest. If you are working or doing research in a field related to math, science or engineering – such as health, medicine, technology, multimedia, transportation or civil engineering – our students would appreciate the opportunity to spend a day or an afternoon with you. Students in MESA are primarily African-American, Latino, Native American and females. We are looking for professionals who represent the diversity in our students to encourage them to succeed in an increasingly multicultural workplace.

Guest Speaker for 10th grade MESA class
Professionals in the math, science, technology and engineering are needed. We work with 9 of the Seattle Public High Schools, and teachers welcome guest speakers to talk about a variety of topics related to the areas of math and science. Class times are available between 7:30am-3pm, for a 45-minute time period. |

Saturday Academy for 9th Grade
High school freshmen participate in hands-on engineering activities and workshops. Volunteers from professional organizations or college students are needed to mentor the students in their engineering projects. Guest speakers in the math and science fields who are able to connect with our students through interesting presentations or hands-on demonstrations are welcome.

Saturday Academy for Juniors
The purpose of Saturday Academy is to provide a structured track for MESA juniors to help them pursue a goal of higher education and set career goals. Students commit to nine Saturdays a school year, one meeting per month from September through May. Sessions are located on the UW campus.
Each Saturday begins with a math activity followed by lunch, and then juniors will break into their two career exploration tracks. The Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) track will expose students to a variety of health science related fields. The Robotics track will expose students to computer science and general engineering related fields.
Desired Skills:
- Robotics volunteers are able to assist students build robots from a kit, and have some understanding of basic programming languages.

Saturday Academy – College Application workshop for Seniors
Mentor a student through the college application process. From September through January, the morning session for Seniors at Saturday Academy focuses on college applications - which includes:
* writing the personal statement
* researching different colleges
* filling out the applications on-line
* filling out the FAFSA form
* looking for scholarships and applying for them
Desired Skills:
Any volunteers who are familiar with the application process and would like to help are welcome!
